Inclusive AI initiatives to embed equality, fairness across AI lifecycle at PwC Australia

Thursday, 21 May 2026

PwC Australia has announced its support for a suite of new initiatives aimed at embedding inclusion into how AI is designed, adopted, accessed and used across day-to-day workflows and in core business operations.

The firm has committed to three practical measures that are designed to promote gender-equal and diverse AI-generated outputs, while reducing the risk of AI reinforcing biases or outdated assumptions.

PwC Australia CEO, Kevin Burrowes, said organisations and their leaders have a responsibility to positively influence the AI ecosystem and make it fairer for the future.

“Artificial intelligence draws on historical data. Without the right checks and human judgement, there is a risk prejudiced AI outcomes are repeated at scale across operations, decision-making, systems and services,” Mr Burrowes said.

“These frameworks ensure inclusivity is built into AI as a standard from the start, not an exception.”

Putting inclusive AI into practice

Led by the Champions of Change in collaboration with Women’s Leadership Institute Australia, these initiatives challenge participants to integrate inclusive tools and thinking throughout the AI lifecycle.

PwC Australia is implementing the following actions:

Inclusive AI pledge Today Mr Burrowes signed the ‘Inclusive AI Pledge’, joining other Champions of Change members and their teams in making a public commitment to strengthen inclusivity across AI governance, systems, policies and decision-making.
Inclusive AI Prompt via ChatPwC As a practical tool, PwC Australia will publish an ‘Inclusive AI Prompt’ on its trusted generative AI platform ChatPwC. It can be added to workflows to help identify potential biases early, highlight diverse perspectives and missed opportunities, and provide recommendations to enhance the quality and credibility of outputs.
Firm-wide engagement campaign To bolster adoption, the firm will roll out a targeted internal communications campaign which demonstrates inclusive AI use in practice, encourages widespread participation, and reinforces the need for fairness in AI as a shared responsibility.

“I’ve been using the Inclusive AI Prompt regularly in my own work and am super impressed with how it delivers gender-neutral outputs and explains the changes it makes based on key criteria,” Mr Burrowes said.

“The choices we make now about how AI systems are created and deployed will determine whether they expand equality for everyone or add to existing inequalities."

"Without clear guardrails, AI could replicate negative norms and stereotypes. But with inclusion at the core of how AI is built, scaled and governed, we can accelerate broader uptake of AI and responsible use practices.”

Creating a more inclusive AI ecosystem

Support for the ‘Inclusive AI Pledge’ and ‘Inclusive AI Prompt’ expands on PwC Australia’s continuing efforts to better understand how different groups access and benefit from AI tools, with a focus on securing equitable outcomes as adoption increases.

By combining the CEO’s pledge with a practical prompt and broad-based engagement, the firm aims to contribute to a more inclusive and trustworthy AI process.

This approach is further reflected in its ‘Inclusion 2030 Strategy’ and Responsible AI framework, including its Trust by Design model, which supports more consistent, transparent and inclusive outcomes in AI-assisted work.

“This is an important moment for leaders to act decisively and set clear expectations,” Mr Burrowes said.

“But you don't need to be a CEO or an expert to make a difference. Anyone in the firm using AI can commit to the ‘Inclusive AI Pledge’ and apply the ‘Inclusive AI Prompt’ in their everyday work, fostering more inclusive, fair, and safe outcomes.”
