PwC Australia welcomes the Government’s National AI Plan

Tuesday, 02 December 2025

PwC Australia welcomes the Government's National AI Plan and establishment of the AI Safety Institute.

CEO Kevin Burrowes said these are important steps toward capturing AI's productivity potential in Australia, while providing confidence to the community around its adoption.

“We support the Government’s commitment to guardrails and targeted oversight that enables innovation and maintains public trust. The decision to build on Australia’s robust existing legal frameworks will be welcomed by the business community and provide confidence in Australia's ability to drive economic gains and productivity through safe adoption of AI,” Mr Burrowes said.

“We also share the Government’s focus on ensuring all Australians benefit from AI. This plan is a step towards achieving that, through its focus on investment in local infrastructure, workforce reskilling, and support for homegrown innovation,” said Mr Burrowes.

“AI has the potential to enhance the lives of Australians and our economy more broadly through productivity. Our modelling shows that the adoption of trusted AI could lift economic output in the Asia Pacific region by 14.7 per cent in the next decade, but only if it is scaled with trust and good governance.

“While AI will provide benefits, it is imperfect and evolving faster than any technology in history. If business and government prioritise transparency, fairness, and accountability, then AI should serve to amplify human potential, while safeguarding integrity.

“PwC’s approach to the responsible use of AI is based around 'humans at the helm' supported by deep capability in AI governance, risk and assurance. Trust is the cornerstone of successful AI adoption, and we are committed to upholding rigorous standards and a continuous commitment to responsible AI, while helping clients and communities build the skills and capabilities needed for an AI-enabled future."
