2017 Conference
Our “Human Side of Leadership” chat room captured an animated conversation about the trends impacting organisations (Asymmetry, Disruption, Age, Populism, Trust) and what they mean for leadership and how our leaders need to lead. The conclusion was that traditional competency frameworks and standard leadership development programs no longer “cut it”, and what is required is a much more human, personal, aligned brand of leadership that reflects organisational and individual purpose, and that creates the right environment for innovation, discretionary effort and personal growth to flourish.
Australia is facing huge challenges in the near future with 93% of CEOs have said they are looking to grow organically. That means they will be looking to their people to achieve these outcomes, and yet 78% of them also said they don't believe they have the capability to do it. It's time that People Experience takes its rightful place on the leadership agenda, is owned and driven by the business. In this context, HR need to create the conditions in which this will be achieved, making the most of the opportunities presented through digital innovations. This chat session captured the intrigue on the connection between employee experience and business performance. A great conversation was around ‘ how do I work out which problem to solve’ ‘what is the right object of design to select’.
A humanist mandate for responding to the uncertain future of work and society and organisations responsibility for those seeking work. Will humanity find a way, as it has in the past, to create a new model, a new world, where people find meaningful ways to contribute to society and create purpose in their own lives by doing so.
