PwC OnBoard connects our Alumni Network and our people to board and advisory roles with not-for-profits (NFPs). As the only board placement program supporting NFPs in corporate Australia, we bridge the gap between the corporate and the NFP sector; between our people and their communities.

Open to a broad range of professionals, we connect you to causes you’re passionate about so you can help drive social change across Australia. This is your opportunity to leverage your professional skills and make a positive impact in the community. In turn, NFPs gain access to your time, talent and networks.

Malvern Special Needs Playgroup

Role: Treasurer
Location: Melbourne
Time commitment: x3 committee meetings held each year (including the AGM). Meetings are held in Malvern.

Overview: Malvern Special Needs Playgroup (MSNP) runs twice weekly sessional care and respite for children with a range of disabilities and their families and employs a small number of professional staff who are supported by volunteers. Their sessions include indoor and outdoor play with the assistance of specialist equipment and provide positive developmental outcomes and help improve the wellbeing of the children and their families. 

Skills: 

  • Minimum a Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping or qualified Accountant (essential)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Eye for detail
  • Experience using MYOB Business (preferable)
  • Experience using Google Drive (preferable)

Arrow Bone Marrow Transplant Foundation

Role: Non-Executive Board Director
Location: National
Time commitment: Quarterly Board meetings + bi-monthly committee meetings (virtually). May be requirement to attend one meeting per year in person eg. strategy meeting / AGM.

Overview: Arrow exists to improve the quality of life for all people having a bone marrow transplant. They do this by:

  • providing financial assistance, information resources and emotional support to our patients, their families and carers;
  • supporting the educational and professional development needs of nurses and other health care professionals working in the transplant field; and
  • investing in medical research that improves bone marrow transplant patient outcomes.

Skills: Finance and Investment: proven experience in financial oversight, investment strategy,capital management and financial risk assessment. Prior not-for-profit board experience desirable but not essential.

Women's Community Shelters - The Sanctuary

Role: 3 x Board Director roles available
Location: Sydney
Time commitment: Board of Directors meets once a month, typically in the evening (6:30–8:30 PM). Depending on the role and area of expertise, members may also be required to attend additional fortnightly committee meetings.

Overview: The Sanctuary is a dedicated women’s shelter located in the Hills District of Sydney and part of the Women’s Community Shelters network. They provide short-term crisis accommodation and case management for women and children who are homeless or escaping domestic and family violence.  Their mission is to support in the rebuild of their lives and reintegrating into the community with safety, dignity, and independence.

Skills: Seeking candidates for 3x Board Director roles with expertise in:

  1. Strategy Committee Member with Organisational Governance (NFP) experience, i.e., a strong understanding of governance best practices within the not-for-profit sector.
  2. Marketing & Fundraising Committee Member with expertise in
    Social Media Marketing including digital strategy, brand awareness, and community engagement to amplify our impact; and Public Relations including creating PR campaigns, sourcing and responding to media opportunities and public speaking.
  3. Company Secretary – Knowledge of corporate governance, regulatory requirements, and administrative responsibilities essential to board operations.

Melanoma Institute Australia

Role: Non Executive Director & Chair of FRAC
Location: Sydney
Time commitment: Board meetings are usually held quarterly (3-6pm on a Tuesday), however as they are working through a restructure of the board, the board are currently meeting on a monthly basis.

Overview: Melanoma Institue Australia (MIA) is the world's largest research and treatment centre with a focus on melanoma and advanced skin cancer. Their goal is zero deaths from melanoma, which will be achieved through ongoing research and clinical trials into diagnostics, optimal clinical management and new therapies, as well as education to promote best clinical practice. MIA also supports sun safe behaviour and education to promote prevention and early detection of melanoma.

Skills: MIA is entering a period of Board renewal, including succession planning for the Chair. The Board is seeking to appoint Non-Executive Directors who bring complementary skills across governance, strategic communications, philanthropy to support MIA’s long-term mission and strategic direction. Candidates would require strong financial acumen.

Early Learning Association Australia

Role: Treasurer
Location: Melbourne
Time commitment: Board meetings are held 6 x per year during work hours (generally the middle of the day). Additional commitments include Finance & Investment committee meetings as well as annual strategic planning day.

Overview: Early Learning Association Australia (ELAA) is Victoria’s peak body for early childhood education and care (ECEC) services and is an influential voice for excellence and equity for Australian children. For over 32 years ELAA has represented the voice of over 1200 community operated centres, not-for-profit Early Years Managers (EYMs) and other service providers and has advocated for high quality early learning to governments and the community.

Writers SA

Role: Board Chair
Location: Adelaide
Time commitment:  The Board is currently meeting more frequently due to recent leadership changes but anticipate meeting once a quarter in 2026. Sub-committees and working groups are to be confirmed. The chairperson’s contribution to these is to be determined depending on the role holder. They will also be called upon to supervise and support the CEO on a one to one basis.

Overview: Writers SA is the state’s peak organisation for writing and literature, putting South Australian writers at the forefront of national literary culture. They nurture deeper connections, create vital opportunities and industry pathways, and support writers at all stages, through an array of literary programs, festivals, services, and events.

Skills: Seeking a Board Chair with strong networks and connections in SA government, business, and/or the sector. The Chair will be responsible for ensuring that the board delivers its commitments to the organisation, working with the CEO to set up appropriate sub-committees or working groups to support the employees to deliver the agreed vision and strategy. RULE Prostate Cancer

Role: Chair, Finance, Risk & Audit Committee
Location: Melbourne
Time commitment:  Approx. time commitment is 2-3 hours/month throughout the year, including:
• Audit Committee Meeting - quarterly (1-2 hours)
• Board Meetings - quarterly
• Interaction with External Auditors as required
• Oversight Duties - periodic attention throughout the year

Overview: RULE is recognised as a leading charity dedicated to the early detection, quality treatment and research of prostate cancer. They promote men’s health and prostate cancer awareness through their community education programs. Their fundraising initiatives support the vital work of Australian Prostate Centre (APC).

Skills: The successful candidate will demonstrate most, if not all, of the following skills and personal attributes:

  • Professional qualifications in accounting or finance
  • Prior experience serving on boards or board committees
  • Exhibit the highest ethical standards, sound judgment, and objectivity
  • Proven ability to lead meetings and foster productive discussions
  • Strong communication skills
  • Solid understanding of internal control frameworks, risk assessment, and mitigation strategies
  • Ability to evaluate the adequacy of financial controls and risk management processes

Girl Guides Australia

Role: Committee Member - Finance & Risk Committee
Location: National
Time commitment:  The Finance & Risk Committee meets 6-7 evenings a year for up to 2 hours with packs sent out a week ahead.

Overview: Girl Guides provide a brave space where girls can turn what they choose to do into springboards for who they can become. Gaining life and leadership skills through activities, community involvement and achievement awards. Designed to empower, their framework allows girls to lead their units and the adventures they have supported and mentored by adult volunteers.

Skills: Under the Girl Guides constitution, they are required to have a woman aged under 30 on each committee.  They are seeking female applicants with:

  • financial and accounting skills
  • who align to their mission and eager to learn and grow
  • who have skills in communication, analytical thinking, strategic decision making, attention to detail, teamwork and the ability to be an advocate for the needs of girls and young women
