PwC OnBoard connects our Alumni Network and our people to board and advisory roles with not-for-profits (NFPs). As the only board placement program supporting NFPs in corporate Australia, we bridge the gap between the corporate and the NFP sector; between our people and their communities.

National Asthma Council Australia

Role: Board Director 
Location: National
Time commitment:  5 x either in-person or virtual Board meetings per year, plus occasional Board teleconferences and correspondence. Most in-person meetings will be held in Melbourne. The role may also require serving on at least one Board committee or advisory group and providing other ad hoc assistance to the organisation as requested.

Overview: The National Asthma Council Australia (NAC) is a not-for-profit organisation and is the leading authority for asthma knowledge, working to improve the health of people living with asthma and the social and economic impacts of asthma.

Skills:

  • Demonstrated governance knowledge and experience in best-practice corporate governance, policies and processes, particularly in the not-for-profit context
  • Business acumen and expertise in areas including managing financial performance, communications, marketing and branding, business systems, practices and improvements
  • An understanding of a director’s responsibilities (including risk and compliance oversight) including the role’s individual legal duties and responsibilities but also the ethical, fiduciary and financial responsibilities of the Board.

Hagar Australia

Role: Board Director and Finance & Risk Committee member
Location: National
Time commitment:  The Board meets every two months virtually for a two-hour video call.  The Finance & Risk committee meets monthly x 1 hour.

Overview: Hagar Australia are targeting individuals with financial acumen who have worked in an accounting/auditing environment and who have a depth of experience in financial reporting, and risk assessment and management.

Skills:  They are targeting individuals with financial acumen who have worked in an accounting/auditing environment and who have a depth of experience in financial reporting, and risk assessment and management.

The Farm in Galong Limited

Role: Finance Director & Finance, Risk & Audit Committee member
Location: Sydney or Canberra
Time commitment:  Board meetings are quarterly via video conference. The Finance Director is also asked to sit on the Finance, Risk and Audit Committee committee, which also meets remotely quarterly

Overview: The Farm is a not-for-profit charitable organisation located in country NSW. It was established to support women recovering from alcohol and other drug misuse. The work of the Farm is underpinned by the belief that whatever has been lost in a person's life can be restored.

Skills:  The Farm are looking for someone to come onto the Board of Directors as the Finance Director overseeing the company's financial health and performance.

  • Prior not-for-profit board experience is required.
  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting or Business Administration or equivalent.
  • Knowledge and experience in risk management.
  • CA or CPA accreditation

Australian Melanoma Research Foundation Ltd

Role: Board Member
Location: National
Time commitment:  8 x Board meetings are held each year (1.5 hours).  Directors are also expected to participate in Board Committee meetings (approx. 5 per year).

Overview: The Australian Melanoma Research Foundation (AMRF) is a not-for-profit organization operating nationally. Its primary purposes are to raise funds for research to improve melanoma diagnosis and treatment, and to raise awareness amongst the Australian population of the risk factors for melanoma.

Skills: Ideal Ideal candidates will possess:

  • A commitment to the AMRF vision and mission
  • Experience in the not-for-profit sector
  • Skills and experience in corporate governance
  • Skills and experience in philanthropy
  • A legal, accounting/finance, marketing or public/investor relations background
  • Capacity to leverage professional networks to promote the AMRF and create opportunities for both financial and in-kind support
  • Capacity for innovation and collaboration to support the continued growth of AMRF as a highly regarded national charity

Think & Do Tank Foundation

Role: Board Director
Location: Sydney
Time commitment:  The Board meets every 2 -3 months and board members can expect to meet up to 5- 6 times each year.  There is an annual strategy planning day that coincides with a Board Meeting typically around May – June.

Overview: Their mission is to ensure women experiencing exclusion, disadvantage and displacement have agency to shape their lives and voices that are valued by their systems.

Skills: 

  • CPA qualification is required
  • Experience in the NFP sector is required
  • Experience with Xero or similar accounting software is essential
  • Knowledge of a director’s responsibilities, including governance, ethical, fiduciary, and financial aspects, and financial aspects of operating a not-for-profit charity, and of what is required to ensure the organisation is duly compliant and governed effectively to comply with obligations under ACNC
  • Strategic expertise and ability to contribute to decision-making
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting requirements
  • Experience in financial compliance and fundraising is highly regarded
  • Excellent ethical standards, communication skills, and attention to detail
  • Strong organisational, prioritisation, and time management skills
  • Knowledge or passion for arts, cultural and economic development and/or the refugee sector is advantageous
  • Previous board or senior management experience is desirable
