US tax reform

What does it mean for Australia?

.

US Tax Reform is the most significant overhaul of the US tax code since 1986.

It has resulted in a lower corporate tax rate of 21%, and lower tax rates for individuals. Reform has also adopted a territorial taxation system, limits interest rate deductions for corporations, creates new taxes, and adds numerous new rules.

Australian companies doing business in the United States need to understand which provisions are relevant to their businesses and how these provisions will impact on the cost of doing business.

Tax reform of this magnitude has had, and continues to have, significant flow-on impacts worldwide.

“Australian parliamentary representatives need to work together to ensure we remain an attractive location for foreign direct investment.”
