PwC Australia sponsors the Australian ESports League (AEL)

PwC Australia has today announced it is sponsoring the Australian ESports League (AEL) in time for the second season of the AEL University Cup, an initiative that supports hundreds of passionate students who have an interest in gaming and esports.

As the first formerly structured competition of its kind, the league features over 330 students across 55 teams from 26 universities across Australia playing multiple games that include Dota 2, CS:GO and Rocket League.

Over the course of the year, participating teams have been engaging in a fun and interactive competition that is set to culminate in a Grand Final event which is to be held in Melbourne this October. Here, the top two university teams will face off for the Grand Prize and University Cup.

Julie Duncan, Talent Acquisition Leader at PwC says with esports having one of the fastest-growing fan bases in the world, this sponsorship presents an opportunity for PwC to increase its reach to a new cohort of student talent.

“We understand the possibilities esports opens up for developing skills in tech, leadership, problem solving, creativity and strategic thinking,” says Duncan. “Technology is changing the way we do business and we know attracting graduates with these skills is key to our future success and growth as a firm,” she adds.

PwC have established a dedicated committee who are working with the AEL to actively support student participation in the league, promote best practice and governance.

“Together we are working closely with students and universities on campus to introduce new infrastructure and programs that encourage a fair, safe and inclusive esports environment,” says Darren Kwan, Executive Producer of the Australian Esports League.

Beyond the University Cup, a high school tournament is currently running for the first time this year for students aged 13 and over who are interested in video game culture and esports.
