Western Power is owned by the Western Australian State Government and is responsible for delivering safe, reliable & affordable energy supply to the WA community.
In the midst of an economic downturn, and faced with evolving customer needs and a changing regulatory landscape, Western Power knew things needed to change. Operating costs were too high but there was a much bigger opportunity to take a whole of business review and to fundamentally rethink the business to position for the future.
Western Power engaged PwC to help them as they undertook one of the largest transformation programs delivered anywhere in the world.
A true transformation is a whole-of-business effort but Western Power wasn’t set up to work that way. It was heavily siloed, unaccustomed to change, lacking leadership alignment and reluctant. From the boardroom to the field, we worked across the business and with its people to deliver a transformation program that would catch the interest of the global power industry.
By integrating into the organisation and getting to know its people, we were able to co-create the program and partner together to achieve:
This is a story of construction, not demolition. We approached the work as an exercise in building capability – leaving the business and its leaders fit to handle future disruption themselves, and to create mindsets and behaviours in the business that are open and able to respond to change.
For us to have done this, it’s an extraordinary effort and one that would have been hard for us to run at alone. It’s been an amazingly successful program.
