Supporting you to build new skills and confidence to get you back in the workforce

Register your interest to take part in the pilot

More and more older Australians are unemployed and looking for work. They are also staying unemployed for longer, spending an average of 125 weeks looking for work, compared to 110 weeks just five years ago. The research is clear: older Australians want to work - but they need a better system of support to help them find sustainable employment.

What is the ‘Career Skills for New Jobs’ pilot?

PwC’s Career Skills for New Jobs pilot is designed to help 250 older Australians (aged 50+) living in south western Sydney to build new skills and confidence so they have a better chance of finding and staying in employment. The pilot puts the focus back on the individual -- and leverages their background, needs, past experience and future interests to design a tailored program of support. Each individual is unique, so each participant will have a very different journey in the pilot.

What is involved? What can participants expect in the pilot?

All participants will have access to a career coach for up to 12 weeks - a personal guide for their career exploration journey who will help understand their existing skills and strengths, identify skill gaps and training needs, explore market opportunities, and build new skills and confidence to find and stay in work. The career coach will help connect participants to existing tools, resources, training and information about the employment market. As well as one-on-one support from a career coach, participants will also be able to access support digitally, through an online career management tool.

Who can participate?

To be eligible to participate in the pilot, you must be:

  • Aged 50 years or older;
  • Currently receiving Newstart Allowance; and
  • Living in south western Sydney

When and where will the pilot take place?

Support is being delivered in two intakes, starting from 30 September 2019 and from 11 November 2019.
