Total Tax Contribution - 2008 Survey Results
The third annual Total Tax Contribution
(TTC) report includes valuable insights from 79 Australian businesses,
who together contribute over $31 billion in business taxes, or almost a
third of the total projected corporate income taxation revenue for
Australia in 2007-2008.
The 2008 results confirm the significant
contribution of large business to taxation revenue and emphasise the
complexity and inefficiency of the existing tax system, reinforcing the
importance of the Henry Review for business.
The insights provided into the Taxes Borne
and Collected and the cost of tax compliance, reinforce the need for
businesses to better understand their own tax footprint. Furthermore it
also shows the opportunities for greater operational efficiency,
irrespective of how the Henry Review addresses the complexity problem.
This is the third year PwC has undertaken
the TTC analysis, and over this time we have gained insights from over
136 key Australian businesses. The initial 2006 survey put "a stake in
the ground" on business tax reform.
Participation of business in the
TTC study continues to maintain the focus on the need to drive forward
that tax reform, and has again given the participating organisations
the opportunity to better understand and benchmark their own business
tax footprint and cost of compliance.
