Our cities have a lot to be excited about with $75 billion in funding over the next 10 years aimed at rail, road and air.

PwC Australia Partner, Infrastructure and Urban Renewal Clara Cutajar says this will go a long way in tackling the economic cost of congestion, improving our lives and underpin the nation’s prosperity:

  • The $10 billion rail package not only fixes regional and rural rail networks, but connects our regional centres to cities

  • A commitment to build Sydney’s second airport in Western Sydney shows vision and long-term planning. And it’s not all about hard infrastructure. Expect a halo effect across Western Sydney which will make it a new place to live, work and play

  • All of this needs to be coupled with better planning, choosing the right projects and the encouragement of more innovative finance structures, including value capture.

A disappointment is the Asset Recycling Project not on the agenda as this can drive reform across the states.
