Michael Playford

Consulting Actuarial & Analytics Leader

Michael has over two decades of experience providing actuarial advice across a wide variety of insurance areas. These range from motor vehicle, property and health insurance through to the longer tail classes such as public liability, workers compensation, medical indemnity, reinsurance and compulsory third party.

Michael has extensive experience in:
  • general insurance, in particular workers compensation and other types of accident compensation
  • almost all Australian jurisdictions, advising governments, insurers and workers compensation authorities
He was also heavily involved in the tort law reform changes which occurred in personal injury and medical indemnity compensation in the 2000's.

Michael has played a substantial role in the actuarial profession including:
  • Council member of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (IAAust)
  • Deputy Chair for the Board of Examiners of the IAAust
  • Chairperson, General Insurance Practice Committee
  • Medical Indemnity Reform Taskforce Member
  • Structured Settlements Reform Taskforce
Michael regularly contributes to research papers and media publications. He has a Masters of Economics from Macquarie University.

Michael lives in Sydney with his wife and two children.
