Health Actuarial
Our Health Actuarial practice comprises a strong leadership team of actuaries who are recognised leaders in applying actuarial techniques to the health sector. They are supported by a team with speciality expertise in policy, program evaluation, clinical services re-design and epidemiology in the health sector and our broader Actuarial practice.
Together with a dozen actuarial staff, all of whom offer experience in actuarial analyses in the health sector we are unique in providing a mix of actuarial and health expertise.
Our multidisciplinary team brings extensive technical skill and experience to the health sector, having worked on projects covering funding model development, statistical and actuarial analysis, public health, epidemiology, health service design, workforce planning and health sector consultation.
Along with these technical skills we have considerable experience in developing funding models which have jurisdiction wide implications and reach (either state level or federal level), and making us cognisant of the need to consider the real-world impact of the models being developed.
We are also experienced in working, from an independent adviser perspective, alongside government agencies in settings where socio-political considerations must be factored in to decision making.
Our capabilities include:
Policy and governance
We have developed a cycle of monitoring and governance in social systems which allows the assessment and control of risks to system sustainability, providing effective policy implementation.
Resource allocation and funding
Our group are strong advocates for a seamless model of resource allocation in the health system, with funding following the need for services, across the continuum of care. We have worked with a variety of clients to create resource allocation and funding formulae.
Analysis and monitoring
Statistical analysis, modelling and projection and the conversion of these into a monitoring and re-evaluation cycle are basic requirements of actuarial work. We have conducted such analysis for many clients in health and aged care on a variety of projects.
Infrastructure and workforce
Our team holds expertise in the areas of health workforce development, especially in the areas of health workforce planning and policy, aged care workforce issues, medical workforce modelling, occupational injury epidemiology, occupational fatigue and quality of work life.
