Vacation Program

Why wait until you graduate? If you're in your second last year at university and looking to start your career early, the PwC vacation program provides you with a fantastic opportunity to secure your future now. The PwC vacation program is designed for students from any degree background in their second last year of university.
About the program
If you are in your second last year at university and looking to gain some valuable work experience, our vacation program is designed for you. This program offers real life work experience, allowing you to see first-hand what it's like to work for a professional services firm before you graduate.
The program varies by office but could be run over three to eight weeks during December, January or February, or June or July.* The program also offers you the opportunity to secure a place on our graduate program before heading into your final year at university.
*Our winter program is only available within some business areas and offices. Please
contact your campus recruiter for more information. In order to be eligible to apply, you must be an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident.
Selection process
We know that it's not just about PwC choosing you, but also you choosing us. That's why we provide numerous opportunities for you to meet us and obtain all the information you need to make an informed career decision.
Careers fairs and PwC information events provide you with the opportunity to meet PwC staff to find out more about the firm. We will be
visiting a university campus near you soon.
Our selection process may differ slightly from office to office, but is designed to provide a range of opportunities to demonstrate your capabilities. It generally follows in this order:
- Online application form - The online application form gives you the opportunity to tell us a little more about yourself. When you are completing the application form, remember to include all your experience to date, including academic, work experience, activities, interests etc. Read the questions carefully to make sure you answer to the best of your ability. Remember to demonstrate and exemplify the skills and competencies that will help you succeed at PwC. We want you to tell us about the 'whole' you, not just your academic achievements. View tips on how to apply and application dates in your state.
- Online testing and personality questionnaire - At this next step, we would like you to complete an online numeric and verbal reasoning test, which helps us determine your numerical and verbal reasoning ability. The tests typically take 30 - 45 minutes to complete and your results are verified when you visit us to attend the assessment centre. To help you, there are online practise tests that we encourage you to complete prior to undergoing the real test.
Later in the recruitment process you may be asked to complete a Personality Questionnaire. This assesses how you like to work. There are no right or wrong answers in behavioural style, although some behaviours may be more or less appropriate to certain situations.
All online tests must be completed before you visit us for the next stage of the process, which typically provides you with a 24 - 48 hour window to complete the tests.
For more information about the assessments used, including practice tests and example questions, refer to www.shldirect.com.
- Telephone interview - If you are successful in steps one and two, we will contact you to conduct a short telephone interview. This gives you an opportunity to learn more about the program you have applied for as well as giving us the opportunity to learn more about you and your motivations. This discussion is typically a 'behavioural based' interview and is just as important as a face-to-face interview. Prior to the telephone interview we encourage you to read through your application form again, so the information is fresh in your mind.
- Assessment centre / face-to-face interviews - At the assessment centre, you will be asked to participate in several different exercises which could include a written exercise, group activity, face-to-face interviews, office tour and validating your online ability test. Depending on the office you have applied to, this could be held over day or two separate days. Take confidence in the fact that you've made it through to this stage, so we are very interested in finding out more about you.
To prepare yourself:
- Be sure to arrive on time.
- Research PwC, your specific role and the competencies required.
- Be prepared to actively participate on the day. Group and written tasks are typically used to assess a number of core competencies.
- We understand that the assessment centre day is also an opportunity for you to assess us - so take the opportunity to ask questions that are important to you.
We hope the day is a fun and valuable experience for you.
- Offer - If you have been successful in steps one to four, you will be contacted shortly after the assessment centre by your interviewer or recruitment adviser, who will make you a formal offer to join us. Congratulations on your successful performance throughout the selection process! This will be the start of a rewarding and diverse career at PwC.
You will be given two copies of your offer of employment, one copy for you to retain and the other copy to return to your campus recruiter. You will also be given information about 'PwC Independence Policy', which you will need to read and then complete and return an independence declaration form.
You are required to provide this information so that we can assess your compliance with the various independence-related standards and regulations that apply to our partners and staff due to our role as auditors and professional service providers to our audit clients. To ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements, you may be required to take certain action prior to your commencement with us and we will inform you as early as possible so that you have sufficient time to plan and take any such action.
