UN Women Australia
International Women's Day - 8 March 2011
How can we encourage women to inspire another century of growth?
PwC is a Platinum sponsor of UN Women
Australia's International Women's Day for its second year.
Mary Waldron, PwC Managing Partner, Networks says, "International Women's Day provides an opportunity to unite, network and mobilise for meaningful change in improving gender diversity and we are incredibly proud to be involved with this event again this year."
"Last year we participated in the IWD celebrations hosted by the UN Women where PwC partners, staff and clients joined 7,000 people across the country to engage in a conversation on gender equality."
"It has been heartening to see the increasing level of support for UN Women Australia's IWD in Australia's business community."
To support UN Women's effort to bolster high-level corporate leadership for gender equality and to mark the 100th Anniversary of International Women's Day on March 8th, 2011, PwC was one of the first organisations to sign a CEO statement of Support for the Women's Empowerment Principles.
"As a firm we have been building and delivering a progressive approach to gender diversity, continually striving to encourage gender balance in our firm and across Corporate Australia."
PwC's women's leadership strategy seeks to develop its women and support their acceleration to leadership positions. It also provides networks and forums where women at PwC come together to share their experiences and stories, support each other and build confidence.
"Our investment in female leadership programs provides the firm with the tools to build the skills, resources and capabilities of both our existing and new women joining PwC," says Ms Waldron.
"Some of our programs are designed to develop our women into leadership roles, and improve succession planning and talent management, including PwC's Sponsoring Women, Building Female Leaders and My Mentor Program."
"Supporting gender diversity at PwC is embedded in everything we do, and we are making good progress. Our sponsorship of UN Women Australia's IWD is part of our commitment."
From a global perspective, PwC's focus on diversity is supported through the PwC Global Gender Advisory Council which is a results-orientated advisory group that raises awareness of the business case to improve female retention and development, supporting leadership development for women.
"The economic benefits of supporting successful women are obvious," says Ms Waldron.
